August 2026 GPU Price Index
A full retailer sweep finished on August 21, and it re-priced the whole priority panel: RTX 50-series, RX 9000-series, Intel Arc B-series, RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 Super. The direction is not subtle. Twelve of the 17 priority chips got more expensive since July, two got cheaper, and three did not move.
Updated August 22, 2026. This edition was first published on August 19 against a partial catalog refresh. Every figure on the page has since been re-cut from the completed sweep, so the numbers here supersede that version.
The Headline
- Of the 17 priority GPUs, exactly one sells below MSRP. The other 16 are above it.
- The priority panel averages +26.0% over MSRP with a median of +20.1%, against +10.4% and +14.2% in July.
- The RTX 5090 now costs more than twice its list price: $4,299.99 against a $1,999 MSRP, up from a $2,777 low in July. All nine of its retailer rows sit above $4,200, so this is the market, not one bad listing.
- Across all 27 cards re-checked this month, only 3 are below MSRP and 2 are at it, with the group averaging +20.1%.
- The one durable deal is RX 6800 XT at $469, still 27.7% under list. Its stablemate the RX 6800 lost its discount entirely, going from 22.5% under MSRP to 4.5% over.

These are not priority chips, but their prices were re-checked in the same window, so they belong in the August picture. They are also where what little value is left in the market sits.

Where Value Survives
Previous editions could fill a table of eight cards selling well under list. This one cannot. Of the 27 cards re-checked this month, five sell at or below MSRP, and only three of those are a real discount. The premium side has no such shortage.

Both tables are drawn only from cards re-checked this month. The MSRP column is the launch price; the second column is the lowest in-stock offer.
What This Index Leaves Out
28 cards held back: GPUDrip tracks 55 new desktop GPUs, but only 27 had their cheapest in-stock row re-checked in August. For the other 28, the winning row still dates to a July 2 or July 3 capture, which is the same data the July index was built on. Publishing a blended average would have reprinted July's numbers as August's: that group averages 4.3% under MSRP, and mixing it in would have pulled the market average down to +7.7% purely on the age of the data. Every aggregate on this page therefore covers the 27 re-checked cards only. The held-back rows are mostly previous-generation clearance (RTX 30-series, RX 6000-series, Arc A-series) and they are still visible on each card's own page with its own timestamp.
Amazon: no Amazon price appears anywhere in this report, in any table, average, median or chart. Showing an Amazon price requires sourcing it through the Product Advertising API and re-verifying it inside a short freshness window, which a static monthly report cannot do. GPUDrip links to Amazon without quoting its figure for exactly this reason, and the index inherits that rule from the same shared code the product pages use, so an Amazon row is dropped before any figure is computed rather than filtered out afterwards.
Two bad rows on one card: the RX 6650 XT carries a $68.99 Best Buy row and a $749 Newegg row against a $299 MSRP. Neither is plausible for that card and both look like wrong-product matches. The low one is dropped automatically, because a priced row under a third of its peer median is treated as a different product rather than a deal; the high one never wins a lowest-price slot. The card sits in the held-back group above in any case, so it contributes to no figure in this edition.

Methodology: lowest in-stock price across tracked retailers per SKU, compared to manufacturer launch MSRP, read from the GPUDrip catalog on August 22, 2026. Retailers counted: Best Buy, Newegg, Micro Center, B&H Photo, Adorama, Antonline, CDW and eBay. Out-of-stock, backordered, not-carried, refurbished and discontinued listings are excluded, as are all Amazon listings (see above). Aggregates cover the 27 cards whose cheapest in-stock row was re-checked between August 5 and August 20, 2026; the 17-card priority panel within that group was re-checked on August 20, except the Arc B570 on August 13. Every price carries its own last-checked stamp in the tracker, and the Checked column reports it per row. Prices come from a manual retailer sweep, not from automated scraping.
